 In-It-Together Achives 2011
WHAT A JOURNEY! - WHAT AN EVENT! - WHAT A CHOIR!

A big 'Thank You' to what has become a historic choir, who have been part of an historic event. In It together was an amazing event with thousands for people in attendance. The choir and band lead by Pastor Paul Gordon and Chris Roe brought together a dedicated choir who weathered the challenges and delivered and awe inspiring presentation of music and worship to the event. The unique mix of church community culture forged an even more unique mixture of musical genre dripping with diversity and welded together with unity. Sometimes church is made to feel that it needs more kick. Well, 22nd May 2011 was the winning goal against that kind of an opponent. The whole day was a screaming success and one that will echo across London, other boroughs and up and down the nation. The future impact of this event cannot be under estimated it can only be built upon. Built upon for something that will stage future events that are even bigger and even better.

The dream of unity that started with a few pioneering pastors in Croydon has became a torch that now burns in Croydon and will, with the wind of this new season, will kindle this flames everywhere inside and outside the borough. This event is a tribute to Croydon, a tribute to all the churches and leaders in our community and to the people that made this day a reality.

The S.O.T.T. choir has reason to be satisfied and proud of a job well done. Most of all we do not forget the central focus of what all this effort is all about - It's about us showing the love of God to a community and nation of what happen when people who are motivate by nothing else other than the good of the community when occupy. This event showed to the world that embodiment of the final words of Jesus before he died - "That they may be one..."

‘IN-IT-TOGETHER’ EVENT - EVENING WORSHIP SECTION 22ND MAY 2011

Hello Churches in Croydon

Thank you for your questions about this Croydon Wide Event. We will attempt to answer your questions as fully as we can. Well here goes:

The evening worship part of the ‘In-It-Together’ event for the 22nd May is being co-ordinated by Paul Gordon (Canopy Music) and Chris Roe (Crystal Palace Chaplain).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back Ground information:

The focus of the” In-It-Together” choir and band (aka “Sound of the trumpet choir”) will be to represent the diversity of the many church cultures that are in Croydon. So this choir will be made up of individual who really want to participate in this exhilarating and excited choir. We welcome everyone who really would love to try different musical expressions ‘together’ during the 22nd May evening celebration from approx 6.30pm-9.30pm at the Crystal Palace Football Club – Selhurst Park in a plush 1000 seater marquee

During the evening we want to ‘mix-in’ popular hymns, contemporary European, contemporary urban, black gospel and African styles of music in a way that everyone will enjoy

Rehearsal Times:

Presently we are sounding everyone out and are hoping to have rehearsals on Tuesday evenings commencing from Tuesday 29th March. (Tuesday evening is the more popular so far). The rehearsal times will be from 7pm-9pm. (it will be brighter too from around that time in March). The venue presently is scheduled for Praise House, 145-151 London Road, CR0 2RG. (But this venue is to be confirmed – We will keep you posted about the venue)

If we start rehearsals from 29th March and if we have one rehearsal per week we will have a total of 8 rehearsal sessions between then and the 22nd May. So we do have plenty of time for the development, growth and mastering of materials for this event

What we need from you now?

What we need from everyone now is the details of all who want to participate either as a singer for the choir or a possible musicians for the band (in the band we need: keyboardists, drummer, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, percussionist, sax player). All singers will have a very quick audition for suitability before they can join the choir. (The audition won’t be scary but will be carried out in an enjoyable, light and friendly atmosphere)

All you need to do now is send us the participants

1. Their Names and email address
2. Their mobile number
3. Their facebook or MySpace addresses (or any other social network site)
4. The organisation they belong to

Then send those details on an email to: canopymusic@hotmail.co.uk, putting 'In-it-Together music' in the subject bar

You and your organisation will not need to do anything else. Canopy Music will take it from there and keep everyone up to date with the latest information, times, dates, songs and so on.

NOW! Please do one other thing for us. Make other organisations, friends and ministries aware of this event and get them to send their details too (remember we are ‘in-it-together’)

One Small Opportunity – One Big Event

One small door can be opened and unleash an avalanche of opportunities for others. One man in the right place at the right time can change the course of a nation. This is born out so clearly in the video. Just one thing, this one thing, may be the very thing the Lord needed as a wedge to pry open any blockages so we can all forge forward tying the bonds of unity as we go

Could this be the five loaves and two fishes that begin a tsunami of church unity across the UK? Who knows!? Although today many good and capable people are taking important lead roles in this movement, it is becoming clear that because there are so many people and so many factors involved (and as this thing grows), no one person or organisation will be able to take the glory or credit. Chris is only one of the first of many who understands that his individual contribution (no matter how small or large) is vital to the clarity of the big picture. Now it is for each of us to find our place and contribute our own part.

We can only, everyone, get into this ship as it is ready to be launched into the ocean of destiny and chart a course only the captain, Jesus Christ, can map out. All we need to do is stay in the ship because come hell or high water, we are all in it and we are all 'In-It-Together'

Pulling together In-It-Together

Today churches from all denominations, cultures and social backgrounds are pulling together to make work a day of celebrating our church unity at the Crystal Palace Football Club Selhust Park on the 22nd May 2011. There will be events, food (of culture variety and deliciousness), games, football tournaments, music, entertainment, seminars, courses, a kids area, and stalls selling all kinds of goodies. There will be a massive youth concert in the afternoon, all climaxing with an exciting one thousand seater evening celebration and worship with music, the joint choir for this event (Sound of the Trumpet), singers and the band. Many community officials and dignitaries will be present including our own ‘In-It-Together’ leaders Damian Luke and Paul Barrett. This event celebrations black and white and other cultural and biblical Christian unity. This event is expecting to house thousands of local people from all over Croydon. It will truly be a day of fun, laughter, fellowship and witness in our community and our world

Make it a date for your dairy – It just cannot be missed!

Visit the Croydon Churches Forum's website for continued details and information:

BACK GROUND AND ETHOS OF THIS EVENT

It all started with a dream. A bold dream, that it could be possible to bring together churches from across the borough and across the culture divides to work together side-by-side around a single cause - 'Church Unity'. Today its realisation, although a flicker in the borough, has welcomed a new dawn ablaze on the horizon of future cooperation and collaboration around the only thing that truly unites us all - The Lord Jesus Christ. The message we all preach is love, but that love is born out of unity. Unity and love is important because one draws men to Christ while the other keeps men together in Christ. At last both are achievable right here in Croydon. This is truly the dawn of a new day! This new dawn shines forth Jesus Christ to a world where so many places are void of his love his light and his care. This is Croydon's day to shine starting right here, then in other boroughs and then to the uttermost part of the World. We are for this, we are with this, and we are in this - In It Together!

IMPORTANT AUDITION NEWS TODAY

Previously in the last two rehearsals we have brought together people who have been enjoying themselves and we have all been having a great time. We have found however that the way we are presently conducting the rehearsal is not working a well as we would like. So from here on, to sing or remain in the choir you must:

• Be able to sing a melody in tune and in time
• Be able to harmonise and sings harmony parts
• Be able to learn new songs quickly and remember those songs

Today is the official launch of the In-It-Together Music blog pages. Here you will find everything you need to know about the evening worship celebration section of this event

We urgently need choir directors to teach the choir - Interested!?

What we need now are choir directors who can teach the (Sound of the Trumpet) choir their parts. Choir directors must be able to adapt to different musical genres because we will be engaging in different music experiences from all over the world; European music, traditional gospel music, African music, hymns and more

We need good musicians to work with the choir and the MD

We also good musicians to make up the band; bass player, guitar players, drummers, percussionists, keyboard players and may be even some horn players (saxophonist, trumpet etc). If you are willing to learn and listen, have fun and laugher in an enjoyable atmosphere in this happening event, then this is the place for you. Band rehearsal will start with the choir a week after the auditions. Musicians will be required to learn the tracks before they come to the rehearsal though as space will not allow us to have the choir and the band practising separately. All songs we will be rehearsing will be sent in advance for the participating musicians and singers. "...it's sounding exciting already...!”

The Team

As this choir grows, look out, as we will be introducing the music team you we will be profiling them on this site (Will keep you posted) will succeed because it is a 'team' effort. Chris and I my be behind the organisation, this time of celebration will not be a success without you. Join this exciting team and be part of something that is incredible!!

IN IT TOGETHER We Pray, We Build
(Jude 1: 20)

THE PRAYER TEAM TAKING IT HIGHER
------------------------------------------------------------
The Bible states: "....The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]...." James 5:16b (AMP)

This dynamic scripture is likely to be the reason why Pastor Abby Olufeyimi (the co-ordinator the prayer teams for the In-It-Together celebration) says, "We are really excited about the IN-IT-TOGETHER Celebration on the 22nd May 2011." She says, "I am just as excited about the opportunity to pray and to coordinate the prayer strategy as I am about being at the actual event because I see this as an opportunity to hold up the event and, as it were, to pursue the success of this event in prayer even before day."

Like a candle in the night our prayers will dismiss any darkness and cause the hazardous way before us to be clear and illuminated so we can proceed without incident. The success of this celebration will be due to several interlinking elements working in union for which prayer will be one of those

A SPECIAL MENTION

Everyone in the band and choir has accomplished a mammoth job. You are all just the best - What can I say? Thanks to all involved for your effort time and incredible commitment. Thanks to the band; Afaron Gordon - drums, Paul Davies - Bass, Velroy Bailey - 2nd Keys, Chris Roe - Guitar and Paul Gordon - 1st Keys (They're rockin!!)

But, ever so often in an event you meet some very extraordinary people on your travels. This is true for this event too. I would like to express a big THANK YOU to two very special men. Roy Carlile and Ollie Walkes. These men have been the back bone of strength, courage and determination for me personally and for the choir.

What was so special? Determination, loyalty, consistency, stability, concrete faith in the face of discouragement. These attributes may sound old fashion now-a-days, but it is these qualities upon which historical events like these are built. If the world had more men with these kind of qualities, imaging it - we would have stronger communities, a balanced moral fabric to our society, solid stable families and more goliath legacy that would last generations. We all say thank you for being Christian men who express the qualities of real MEN!

What is it that makes us one? What makes us unified?

-------------------------------------------------------------
What is it all about?
Something to say - from Pastor Paul Gordon

What is life all about?

Many nights I have sat up wondering ‘what in the world am I doing here?’ This question would be followed by the age old meditate - "What is 'it' all about?" Have you ever asked the same questions? You know the questions about why it is that there is so much suffering, or hunger or death. Why so much killing or deformity. You know the questions that everyone seems to want to avoid.

The cry for understanding goes on when I have asked the question about Christians and what would seem to be the obvious contradictions and conflicts that exist between the many different points of view. Where is the unity that the church and this ‘Jesus bloke’ talks about? After all I heard that Jesus (the founder and corner stone of Christianity) prayed something about this in his last moments. The word he squeezed out of his pain and anguish, “...Father that they may be one...” John 17 verse 11 (BBE) says it like this, “...Holy Father, keep them in your name which you have given to me, so that they may be one even as we are one....”

Differences doesn’t have to mean division

As you can see, it is in the name of Jesus and the Word of Jesus that brings about unity. We may all be very different. Different colours, cultures, personalities, nationalities and modes of reasoning, but the things that unifies us is 'The Word'; The living word, ‘Jesus,’ and the words that were uttered and are written down for us to keep in the form of the Bible. We are ‘one’ around the only unifying strand that binds us all together, ‘The Word!’ (The Bible and 'the Christ')

There may be differences in points of view, interpretations and doctrines, but it is the all-encompassing all powerful magnet that draws us towards the truth that it is only ‘Jesus Christ’ and 'the Word’ that unifies us in a way nothing else can. What we sometimes forget is that our various ‘forms’ of worship may be the different, but our form is not the formula for unity. It is the presence of Jesus in the heart that cancells the need to rely solely on our forms or formulas for unity across the ‘differences barriers’

Looking for something new in life? Here it is!

So today if you do not know this amazing person illustrated through the Bible, stop a moment. Today you can get to know the Jesus of the Bible and experience the gift that he offers you. Jesus does not want us only to be in unity with other people, he also desires to be unified, ‘with you’. You can have the opportunity to know the Jesus we are talking about today. Believe me when I tell you that it is not about ‘religion’. What I am talking about is a ‘relationship’.

Christ Jesus calls you and all of us to be at one ‘with him’. How can you do this? By inviting him to come into your heart (your mind, your will – You!) and ask him to occupy that ‘Christ shaped hole’ in your life. If you, like me, want to know, what life is all about? Then check this out. Ah! Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it though. People may have failed you but Jesus Christ won’t. You may be hurt, kicked to the kerb, broken; you may even be suspicious and unsure about this ‘God thing’ or worst still, those ‘God people’. Despite the failures and disappointments, there is another way, the way to the ‘truth and the light’. Jesus said, “... I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me...” (John 14 verse 6)

Below are some introductions to the Bible. This is your first step towards an alternative you may not have been presented before or you may have just forgotten. Come to the one that can truly turn your life around today. Now for the nex step

What do you do next?

1. Ask Jesus to unite with you and come and live in your heart. Ask him to come in and fill that ‘Christ shaped hole’ in your heart that only he can fill. Believe me when I tell you that your life will never be the same again. Why? Because Christ promised you something when you ask him into your life – ‘peace’. The peace only he can bring. (But you must want it – he will NOT force you, but he will lead you to his peace and will lead you to choose this better alternative in life

2. Start reading the Bible immediately. You will come up with lots of questions – this is good! Write down your questions and find people who known Jesus for themselves and don’t stop asking questions until you are satisfied with the answer. (Start my memorising St John 3:16)

3. Start Praying to the father God is Jesus name. Prayer is the key to communicating with Jesus coupled with the reading of the Bible. Do this every day and watch what happens. (Start with Matt. 6:9-13, it gives us a pattern of prayer to start with)

4. Find a church that preaches and focuses on ‘Jesus Christ’ and Biblical lifestyles

5. Be encouraged to just keep going! The greatest thing about knowing Christ Jesus is that he really helps you to face life and help you get ‘through life’ not ‘escape from life’. You can now face life with him. Now because he lives (in you) you can face whatever tomorrow brings. Enjoy your new life!

6. Lastly, you can regularly visit this site and read the bible on the right hand side of this page

Sunday Morning Additions
1. HOW DEEP THE FATHERS LOVE FOR US
1. How deep the father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
2. Behold the man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders;
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life -
I know that it is finished

3. I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom;
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer,
But this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have paid my ransom
-----------------------------------------------------------------

2. IN CHRIST ALONE
1. In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand

2. In Christ alone! who took on flesh
Fulness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied -
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live

3. There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

4. No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand
